Mrs. Hatten is from Warner Robins, Ga., where she began professional training at the age of nine with former Broadway star and June Taylor dancer, Sandra Stokes, founder of Dance Arts Studio, Macon, Georgia. Miss Stokes, a ballet major from Texas Christian University, brought her extensive theatrical experience into the classroom from her years on Broadway with Robert Joffery, Jerome Robbins, and the National Broadway Company, including the lead of “Maria” in the Broadway production of “West Side Story”. Mrs. Hatten majored in Dance at the University of Southern Mississippi for two years, where she was also a member of the Dixie Darling Dance Team. At the leading of the Holy Spirit, she transferred to Belhaven College in 1983, and received her B.S. in Accounting. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Mrs. Hatten also brings a cumulative of 20 years business experience from the public sector as a budget and public accountant, including seven years as office manager/bookkeeper for numerous dance schools. In the fall of 1997 she founded Hatten Dance Arts Studio (HDA), named in honor of her mentor, where her anointing to teach in a spirit of patience and gentleness ministers to parents and children alike through her unique, open-class policy, whereby parents are welcome to observe class at any time. In addition to a professional and well-organized program, Mrs. Hatten has developed a dance curriculum in Cecchetti ballet technique and traditional Broadway/Hollywood jazz and tap styles, that steps-up in two-year increments giving the dance student a strong and solid foundation while building confidence, self-esteem and character. Students of HDA routinely minister through dance to area retirement homes and churches, and every recital performance is based on a verse of scripture, which students memorize. These qualifications combined with her commitment to honor God through the art of dance have made Mrs. Hatten’s program a favorite with parents, including being named a “Family Favorite in 2007”, in the annual survey of Parents & Kids Magazine. |
